Afraqua impact
Food Security & Nutrition
•Increased food security and better nutrition (fish a source of essential nutrients). Tilapia the most efficient source of protein
•Relieve pressure on the ocean wild catch
Female Empowerment
• Female employment and training (aquaculture has high level of female employment globally)
•Indirect employment – sell tilapia to market trade partners via a mobile app and supported by our logistics/delivery/marketing network of which over 80% will be women, usually mothers
Outgrowers/
Smallholders
•We will create a market for rice farmers for the fulfilment of our rice bran inputs resulting in further indirect employment.
•Development of seaweed out-grower programme will provide income and employment for local villages
Carbon Footprint
•Feed accounts for 80% of aquaculture carbon footprint. We target no compound feed in
grow-out phase
•Ultra-low carbon energy model – pumping, freezing, ice production, cold storage etc from direct solar, production of biodiesel and biogas from processing waste, efficient diesel electric hybrid barges
•Carbon capture by seaweed
