Tilapia
Tilapia is our cornerstone species.
It has been called the aquatic chicken
•High growth rate - can grow to almost 800 grams in a year

•Disease resistant. Fewer problems with disease and water quality in tilapia culture than in the culture of most species

•They can adapt and grow in a wide range of salinity

•They feed on low trophic levels (short food chain) and use the aquatic detritus (bioflocs)

•They are vegetarian

•They have the advantage of food for direct consumption. Low fat and do not contain bones within the tissue

•They can tolerate low dissolved oxygen concentration, high ammonia concentration, and low water quality in general
